ADMINISTRATION OF SAFETY INDOCTRINATION
1. Purpose
To provide the superintendent with
the minimum criteria required for new employee orientation on his job site.
2. Definitions
New Employee New to the job site. This employee may have been employed at other job sites.
Visitor Any non-employee or any SMC employee who is not assigned to this project.
Vendor Any individual or company making deliveries to the job site. Example: Welding supplies.
3. New
Employees
The superintendent shall review in detail with the new employee the contents of the Safety Indoctrination and Orientation Manual for the subject jobsite. At the completion of the indoctrination, the new employee and the superintendent, or his designee, will date and sign the Employee Safety Indoctrination form found at the end of this section. This form shall be forwarded to the safety coordinator at the Memphis office.
4. Engineering
Employees
Prior to field visits or assignment, the employee will attend a safety indoctrination and orientation for that project. SMC’s safety coordinator shall conduct this.
5. Visitors
The superintendent or his designee shall review in detail SMC safety rules and the client safety requirements sections of the indoctrination and orientation manual for the subject jobsite with any visitors prior to being allowed access to the construction areas of the jobsite.
All visitors must be escorted by an employee while in the construction areas.
6. Vendors
Vendors that will require access to the construction areas in order to make deliveries will receive a copy of SMC safety rules and client rules to review with their delivery personnel prior to delivery being made to the site. The vendors are required to wear protective equipment as designated for the subject jobsite.
Documentation Required: Employee Safety Indoctrination/Training form
The original copy of the completed form shall be sent to SMC's safety coordinator and a copy kept in the employee's file at the job site
